Wheel & Sprocket's Bicycle Fit Studio

Click for a larger view!We are delighted to announce an exclusive fit services partnership with John Huenink. John is very well known in cycling circles for his fitting skills and knowledge. Pictured: John completing a fit with Team 4 sponsored pro athlete and coach, Heather Havilland, in the Bicycle Fit Studio.

Our Brookfield location is the site of a new, state of the art Bicycle Fit Studio. At the Bicycle Fit Studio we are dedicated to improving comfort, performance, aerodynamics and injury prevention. Providing an environment with the latest in technology is the next step in catering to the needs of every cyclist. Our new studio allows us a one-on-one opportunity to understand your goals, interests and aspirations coupled with your biomechanical attributes and abilities. We look forward to working with you in the future.

Comfort and power work together. A well fitted bicycle should be an extension of you. Identifying proper saddle position and your strong torso angle we can ensure power and control on the bike mile after mile. Utilizing a diverse skill set and twenty years of practical knowledge we take into consideration all possible scenarios presented during a ride. Having a strong biomechanical background enables us to promote power development, comfort, and in most cases aerodynamics allowing more time in the saddle at a faster average speed. A Dynamic Fit generally takes two hours and is available by appointment only.

1. Interview

Click for a larger view!During the interview we are looking for and gathering any possible information that aids in optimizing your cycling experience. Learning about each rider is extremely important when assessing their goals and understanding their needs.  Looking at training volume, medical history and listing concerns proves valuable when considering a position change.  The end result being a perfect mix of human and machine.

2. Physical Assessment

Click for a larger view! The fitter does an initial physical assessment of the rider, and at this point can address the rider's concerns about performance, pain, or any other issues the rider hopes to alleviate during the bike fit. Once this is completed, the Retül process begins.

3. Fit using Retul Technology

The Retul motion capture system was developed with professional racers and the best bike Click for a larger view!fitters in the world and now we bring this revolutionary fitting tool to you! With Retul's 3-dimensional motion capture technology, we can dial in your bike fit to sub-millimeter tolerances. By allowing you to continuously pedal your bike in a trainer, the Retul system lets us see exactly what you're doing as you ride. Retul makes our bike fitting process faster and more precise so you can be riding at your best, sooner!

With our knowledge of biomechanics and kinesiology as it applies to cycling, the Retul system enhances our dynamic bicycle fitting. After asking you about your Click for a larger view!cycling goals, assessing your individual biomechanics, and letting you warm-up on the trainer, we place 8 markers atop anatomical landmarks (see illustration), along one side of your body that will be used to analyze your full body movements while riding your bike. The small Retul wiring harness is then attached to these markers and information about your riding is sent to the computer. The harness uses tiny LED lights that flash 42 times per second to send data to the sensor.

This data is interpreted by the computer and gives us critical information regarding how you ride. For instance, we can see all of the different knee angles throughout your pedal stroke. And even though the lights may appear to be in one plane, the sensor is able to capture tiny lateral movements, such as a knee wobble, during the pedal stroke that tells us how your body is moving in three dimensions. We then repeat this process on the other side of your body to find any asymmetries between sides. By analyzing the information captured with the Retul system, we can make appropriate changes to your bike fit, both large and small, to make you more comfortable, more efficient and faster, too!

And, once we have your final position dialed in your bike, Retul allows us to keep that information in a convenient 3D digital record so we know exactly how to set up any bikes you may purchase in the future. Just as important, with Retul we can quickly and easily compare your past and present bike fits as both your body and your cycling needs change over time.
